Constipation is a common situation for many people. It is usually a temporary phenomenon caused by poor dietary habits, as diets rich in fats and refined sugars and low in fiber. It also occurs because we do not give ourselves enough time for excretion; in other words, we postpone the urge for a more "convenient time".
It is known that many foods contain traces of cancer-causing chemicals that are more likely to damage the longer they stay in the intestine, situation that happens in constipation.
Certain herbs exert laxative effect acting directly on the large bowel, with the property of no habit-forming. This action is in direct contrast to that exerted by most proprietary laxatives. Dependency on laxatives results when they become necessary to substitute normal muscular contractions of the colon.
Dr. Francisco Contreras has considered the previous facts and has developed KEM FIBER, a product 100% natural, made with herbs.
KEM FIBER, contains cascara sagrada and psyllium.
KEM FIBER, is a beneficial nutritional supplement, especially if you are in a body weight control program.
Kem Fiber Ingredients and Actions:
*Cascara Sagrada: The scientific name of this tree is Rhamnus purshiana. The dried bark of cascara sagrada remains the world's most popular laxative. Its active principles are anthraquinone glycosides.
Cascara sagrada is perhaps the best studied of the laxative herbs. It does not have the astringent side effects; in fact it helps to restore tone and normal muscular activity to the lower bowel. Six to eight hours after having ingested cascara sagrada one can expect a pleasant bowel movement without griping. No synthetic substance can equal the mild and speedy action of the "holy bark".
The bark of cascara sagrada should always be aged for at least one year before being employed as a laxative. During this period certain chemical changes occur in the bark that reduce the griping effect than often accompanies the use of laxatives.
The laxative effect of cascara sagrada is produced when the an-thraquinone glycosides are hydrolyzed by intestinal bacteria, liberating active anthraquinones that stimulate the colon.
The Formulary Service of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists emphasizes the mildness of cascara sagrada, and acknowledges that it will not lose its effectiveness with repeated use. No bigger and bigger doses are required over time.
Cascara Sagrada possesses the following properties: 1) Its laxative action is mild; 2)in reasonable doses it does not provoke discomfort; 3) its action is limited to the colon, and therefore does not develop problems in the rest of the gastrointestinal tract; 4) its effectiveness is not lost with repeated use; 5) it is not habit-forming; 6) it can be used to restore and maintain tone in the colon; and 7) in small doses it can be used on a daily basis to enhance the health of the liver and other organs.
*Psyllium: is a soluble mucilloid fiber. It is derived from the seeds' husk of the Indian herb Plantago ovata.
Psyllium is an intestinal lubricant and soothes the mucous membranes of digestive tract. Mixed with water, psyllium makes an excellent laxative.
Recently, beneficial actions of psyllium have been observed when it is added to the diet of diabetics and in subjects with high blood levels of cholesterol.
Suggested use: Take 1 capsule 20 minutes before each meal (3 times a day).
